A New Plymouth man has been found guilty of the gunpoint abduction and sexual violation of a teenage girl.
Parata Aarron Tamihere, 21, had denied abducting the young woman at gunpoint on Fitzroy Golf Course in the early hours of New Year's Day and forcing her to give him oral sex.
But a jury in the New Plymouth District Court took less than 2 1/2 hours yesterday to find him guilty, the Taranaki Daily News reported.
Crown prosecutor Justin Marinovich told the jury in his closing address that there was no doubt Tamihere was responsible.
"The evidence collectively is overwhelming," Mr Marinovich said, as he outlined 10 key points against the accused, including a positive identification and DNA evidence.
He was remanded in custody for sentence on December 23.
