CDK 304/7 declared drew with Uni-Grange 244/9
Nick Tapper led the way as his CDK side made hay on a delightful Dunedin afternoon at Bishopscourt.
Tapper, the Hounds captain, cracked his maiden century, 108 not out off 95 balls, and powered the club to a formidable total of 304 before declaring.
After a positive early start from openers Xavier Chisholm (36 off 39 balls, including seven boundaries) and Liam Ryan (32), Tapper got to work.
He was punishing on all the University-Grange bowlers and cracked 14 fours and four big sixes.
Tapper found the ideal partner in Ashton Hansen, who blazed away at the other end for a thrilling 69 off 41 balls, including six fours and five sixes, and the pair added 130 for the fifth wicket.
Hrishi Bolar and Shiv Achary each grabbed a couple of wickets for the battered University-Grange attack.
The Spartans had a fair old crack at chasing down the target, but it was always going to be a tall ask.
Vinay Chandrappa (80 off 70 balls) and Venkat Kotte (63) added 119 for the third wicket, but when they fell, the chase petered out.
Tapper completed a highly successful day with a three-wicket bag.
Albion 104 lost to GI 108/3 by seven wickets
Green Island made no race of it as they cleaned up Albion at Sunnyvale.
After rolling Albion for 104, Green Island chased down the target in the 20th over.
The Swamp Rats had an early stumble in their reply before Dean Foxcroft, the Volts batter making a rare club appearance, swatted 22 off 18 balls.
Elliot Santner (39 not out off 42 balls, including two fours and four sixes) and Daniel Lawrence (22 not out off 35 balls) had an unbeaten stand of 60 to guide the home team to victory.
Green Island opening bowlers Blair Soper and Daniel Lawrence had earlier dashed Albion’s hopes of posting a decent total.
Soper had three for 19 off 8.4 overs and Lawrence three for 29 off seven, and four other Green Island bowlers had a wicket each.
Luke Marsh (23) and Dylan Fletcher (22) made starts for the Eagles.
Taieri 245/7 drew with NEV 122/7 by 123 runs
Taieri have done just fine without Ben Lockrose this summer — they are top of the table, and everyone seems to be contributing — but they enjoyed having the Volts spinner and handy batter back on deck at Brooklands.
Lockrose loosened his broad shoulders and swung to all corners as his century helped rescue Taieri from a rugged start and dominated a decent tally from 60 overs.
The home side were quickly 25 for three when Lockrose and Cameron Elliott came together.
Both would end up facing 137 balls, and while the Otago representative looked for the boundary, Elliott played a classic supporting hand, grafting his way to 62 in a partnership of 155.
Lockrose was finding the middle of the bat and it was not too long before he was raising it, finishing with a classy 116, including 14 fours and three sixes.
Samuel Duff added an unbeaten 29 off 22 balls, while Kaleb McKay (three for 42) and Shaedon Miller (two for 29) bowled well for North East Valley.
Henry Dobson (42) and Sebastian Lauderdale-Smith (35) had handy knocks. Valley never looked capable of pursuing the target once they had gone, but McKay was also a hero with the bat, blocking out 47 balls for no runs to secure the draw.
Lockrose took three for 40 off a marathon 20 overs.
• The innings of the weekend came in the Dunedin fourth grade competition.
Dushane Perera, batting No4 for the CDK Jackals, plundered 208 off 89 balls at Logan Park.
He hit 19 fours and 14 sixes as the Jackals rattled up 452 for five from their 40 overs, before dismissing the Green Island Gators for 107.
