Te Anau beat Southland Boys’ High School by 46 runs in the ninth and final round of the first phase of the Southland club 40-over competition on Saturday.
Te Anau won the toss and elected to bat on their lakeside ground.
A 70-run opening partnership was led by Grant Taylor (47). Tom Clearwater then carried on his good form with an unbeaten 67. Nepia Tauri was also unbeaten on 27 when the innings ended at 211 for four.
Te Anau bowler Greg Taylor dismissed both openers without scoring, and the visitors were soon 29 for five.
Jacob Brady (73) kept Southland Boys’ in the match, but Te Anau wrapped it up in the 37th over. Greg Taylor finished with four for 15 from seven overs.
Waikoikoi beat Marist by six wickets at the country ground.
Marist won the toss and batted, but local bowlers Ryan and Liam McFaul tore through the top order. Alec Mathieson (24) top-scored for Marist as they folded for 114 in the 33rd over. Ryan McFaul finished with five for 28 from eight overs.
Waikoikoi lost only four wickets before winning in the 19th over. Jared McKenzie top-scored with an unbeaten 48.
Central Western beat Blue Mountain by six wickets in Winton.
In-form Riley Gillions scored 59 for Blueys but Jack Campbell’s 23 was the only other score in their 124. Central’s Jon Henery took six for 31 from seven overs.
James Wadsworth (39) and Stephen McLachlan (22 not out) led the successful run chase.
Old Boys beat the Royal Riders by 120 runs at Queens Park.
Old Boys opener Brayden Thomas (41) set the platform for captain Sam McLachlan to smash 106 runs off 68 balls.
Chasing a daunting 288, Riders captain Ad Gul scored an unbeaten 48 as his team ran out of overs on 168 runs.
The Appleby Rams beat the Metropolitan Cubs by 75 runs.
The Rams batted first on their home track and posted 231 for nine. Hunter Cairns (86) anchored the innings with support from Josh Cocker (39) and Kieran Lloyd (30).
Metro opener Charith Charlie Nanayakkara contributed 48, but Rams bowler Jacob Downing starred with six for 15 as the Cubs curled up for 156.
