Queenstown came alive with the sights and sounds of Chinese New Year yesterday afternoon.

Drummers and dragons danced through the street as members of the Otago and Southland Chinese Association performed a traditional lion dance outside O’Connell’s mall.

Otago and Southland Chinese Association also have events planned for Dunedin this weekend.

They will perform a lion dance at the Dunedin Chinese Garden accompanied by fireworks on Saturday and perform lion dances at the Wall Street and Meridian Malls on Sunday.
