The New Zealand Transport Agency has investigated concerns raised about warning signs at the pedestrian crossing on the top of Severn St and has agreed they are not in the best position.
Lorraine Adams wrote to the NZTA with concerns about the safety of the crossing on SH1.
She wanted steps taken to make the site safer, including an electronic system similar to a crossing controlled by traffic lights.
She said motorists were often driving too fast and many failed to stop when she was waiting to cross.
She wore re-flectorised clothing.
In response, network operations national manager Dave Bates said the warning signs would be relocated to the best position ahead of the crossing.
The NZTA would also increase the size of the signs to the maxi-mum allowable and use fluorescent green to make them more visible.
The crossing's operation would be reviewed once the improvements were made.
Miss Adams' concerns about motorists failing to stop and those speeding would be passed on to police, Mr Bates said.
