A motorcyclist has been seriously injured in a crash that closed State Highway 1 north of Dunedin for a time today.
A police spokeswoman said the accident happened on the highway about 1.35pm, between Russell and Allen Rds near Merton.
‘‘It appears to be a single-vehicle crash and one person is in a serious condition.’’
It was later confirmed the crash involved a motorcycle, and the rider had been taken to Dunedin Hospital.
The spokeswoman said no-one else was injured.
The highway was closed for a couple of hours, leading to lengthy queues of traffic, but NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi advised at 3.40pm it had fully reopened.
