The restoration was timed so it would be completed ahead of the Anzac and Gallipoli campaign commemorations next year.
Central Otago District Council parks and recreation manager Mathew Begg said the work took about four weeks.
Old paint was removed, and a new base was added to the memorial after it was found to be sitting on a bed of rocks.
Flag pole mounts were added, and the base was plastered, painted, and water proofed.
Finally, irrigation was re-installed, and flowers were planted.
Mr Begg said they would probably be replaced with poppies before Anzac Day next year.
No work was done on the statue at the memorial as it was ''pretty tidy.''
The council was happy with the work, and contractors had done a good job, he said.
The final cost of repair was not known, but it was expected to be just over the $19,000 budget, due to work on the memorial foundations.
There would be no official event to rededicate the war memorial until Anzac Day commemorations next year.
