John McGlashan College director of boarding Drew Campbell shows off some of the school’s 70-year-old furniture, which is up for sale.

Mr Campbell said the furniture had been sitting in storage since the school’s dining room was upgraded four years ago.

"We’ve just decided that actually we need to sell those off and make use of them rather than gathering dust in storage," Mr Campbell said.

There was still plenty of life in the furniture, which included 10 3.5m-long oak tables ($1000), 20 benches ($200) and seats ($25), should anyone be looking to upgrade their crib or need to seat a lot of people for Christmas lunch, he said.

"Anywhere you gather people around."
