One person has died after a crash involving four vehicles just outside Christchurch tonight.
The crash was reported at 4.55pm on State Highway 1 at Rolleston.
The driver and passenger of a car and the driver of a stock truck, both travelling south-bound, were uninjured.
The driver and passenger of a north-bound car are reported to have moderate injuries and were taken to Christchurch Hospital.
The driver and sole occupant of a south-bound car was trapped in the vehicle for approximately 30 minutes and was confirmed as being deceased at the scene.
The death has been referred to the Coroner.
Police are currently working to ensure next of kin are fully informed and will not release any details of the deceased person until this process has been completed.
The Christchurch Serious Crash Unit are investigating the cause.
It is hoped more information will be released about the crash tomorrow afternoon.
