The eyes have it

Almost 49 years after they finished fifth form at St Paul’s High School, some of the former classmates gathered in Dunedin for a catch-up and to see how much their school, and each other, have changed.

Classmate Jon Kwiatkowski said it had been nearly 50 years since he had last seen some of his classmates, but he recognised all but one person with a simple glance at their eyes.

‘‘The eyes don’t lie,’’ he said.

The group took a tour of the school, now called Trinity Catholic College, to see the changes, and caught up over a meal to see where life had taken them.

Of those catching up, one attendee had grandchildren going through the school.

‘‘It was just the boys’ catch-up but as interest gathered it just started evolving from there,’’ Mr Kwiatkowski said.

‘‘We’ve had a damn good response.’’

St Paul’s High School, Moreau College and St Edmunds merged in 1989 to form Kavanagh College, which last year was renamed Trinity Catholic College.
