The first in a series of 10 sessions seeking feedback on the Southern strategic health services plan began in Alexandra last night, attracting more than 20 people.
The Southern District Health Board and the Southern Primary Health Organisation are hosting the sessions.
DHB planning and funding executive director Sandra Boardman (left) is pictured chatting to Alexandra resident Lenore Townsend about the plan.
Most of the questions raised at the Alexandra meeting revolved around beefing up rural health services.
Rory Gollop, deputy chairman of Central Otago Health Services Ltd, which runs Dunstan Hospital, praised the focus in the plan on strengthening rural health and looked forward to the hospital being part of an inland health services hub mentioned in the report.
The next meeting in the series will be held at Gore on Tuesday, October 28.
