Authorities urged drivers to avoid non-essential travel on Saturday as surface flooding, snow and fallen trees made for treacherous conditions on South Island roads.

But that didn’t seem to bother these people, who stayed at home and made the most of the late snowfalls in Central Otago and the Mackenzie Country.
