Half a $500,000 budget blowout for a new Queenstown primary school's hall will be underwritten by the Queenstown Lakes District Council.
The council had already agreed to pay $1.6 million towards extending Shotover Country Primary School's hall so its facilities can be used by the public, out of school hours.
But in a report to Thursday's extraordinary council meeting, council officers say the work will now cost $500,000 more and the council should underwrite half.
The Ministry of Education has agreed to pay the other half.
The report says the council should make funding applications to Central Lakes Trust, NZ Lotteries Board and Community Trust of Southland.
