It will go down as Super Saturday for Otago Boys' High School.
The school was celebrating when its basketball and rugby stars enjoyed a rare sporting double.
Led by tournament most valuable player Sam Timmins, Otago Boys' charged to a stunning win in the New Zealand secondary schoolboys basketball championships in Palmerston North.
The Dunedin school left the crowd gasping as it beat defending champion Westlake Boys' High School, a hoops powerhouse that has in recent years produced Kirk Penney, Thomas Abercrombie and Corey Webster, 74-69 in the final.
Timmins, arguably the most exciting prospect to come out of Otago since Mark Dickel two decades ago, poured in 26 points and added 23 rebounds to help Otago Boys' win the title for the first time.
A few hours before the basketballers lit up the court, Otago Boys' First XV captain Sio Tomkinson was presented with the Bronze Boot after guiding the New Zealand Schools team to a 34-24 win over Australian Schools in Porirua.
