Dog tracks teens accused of harrassing homeowner

The smell of wet dog was in the air of Halfway Bush yesterday after a police dog spent 40 minutes diligently tracking down a group of teenagers.

Acting Senior Sergeant Simon Reay, of Dunedin, said police were called to a property in Helensburgh Rd, Halfway Bush at 11.15pm yesterday after a resident reported a pack of teenagers throwing items at his home.

The issue between the 39-year-old man and the four teens aged between 14 and 15 were ongoing, Snr Sgt Reay said.

Police arrived at the property, but the teens had left, prompting officers to quickly put cordons around the street in place.

A police dog named Leo led the hunt and after 40 minutes of sniffing out the teens in the rain, located a number of the youths near a caravan owned by one of their parents.

The four male teens were referred to youth aid for follow up, Snr Sgt Reay said.
