Hesson unveils his first State Championship squad at an Otago Volts season launch at the University Oval this evening.
With plenty of depth and in-form players at his disposal, there will hardly be room for Hesson to spring too many shocks.
The major point of interest will be whether he can find room for rising youngster Hamish Rutherford, son of former New Zealand captain Ken.
The trial was over by mid-afternoon yesterday with the Wells XI dismissed for just 132 in 48.2 overs in its pursuit of 253.
Jordan Sheed followed his first-innings 38 with a patient 57 off 113 balls (seven fours), playing a lone hand in the Wells XI's second innings.
Craig Cumming took two wickets for a single run, with Nathan McCullum taking two for 30. Earlier, the Cumming XI had progressed from 125 for four overnight to 174 for seven declared.
Uncapped batsman Mark Craig was unbeaten on 32 at the declaration.
Will Somerville was the pick of the Wells XI bowlers with three for 40 off 18.1 overs.
