The noise came, however, from the Snow Machine music fest stage at Remarkables Park — several hundred metres from the hotel.
Reflecting on the guest’s 3-star Google review, hotelier Chris Ehmann says he wonders why the stage faced west, towards Frankton/Kelvin Heights, and not towards the end of the nearby airport runway, where no one lives.
"I think it’s an absolutely amazing event and great for the city, and we love it, but I’m just wondering whether there’d be any consideration to having it face the other direction, so the noise doesn’t get projected into Kelvin Heights, disturbing 600 guests."
Snow Machine director Quentin Nolan says that’s "great feedback and a great idea".
"Working with the community to have minimal disturbance is very important to us, I’m happy to take that into consideration ... for future years."
He says, however, they met the noise level requirements stipulated in their council resource consent.
