No matter what the television might say was recorded at the airport, locals know the real temperature is taken in town.
However, yesterday’s figures may have had a few scratching their heads, with 47°C being displayed at 12.35pm. In contrast MetService recorded 11.7°C at noon and 14.4°C at 1pm.
By 4pm yesterday the clock was showing a more likely 18°C.
There is still a week of winter left and 10 days ago there was snow on the hills surrounding the town.
For the next 10 days, temperatures between 15°C and 17°C have been forecast with lows down to 1°C overnight.
However, MetService meteorologist Mmathapelo Makgabutlane warned spring was a season where almost anything went and it was possible there would be more snow down to low levels in the next few weeks ... or just maybe the 47°C "record" may be broken?
