Waitaki Girls’ High School Careers Expo shaping up to be biggest ever

"It’s all a one stop shop," WGHS careers adviser Viv Hay said.

The August 16 expo will involve 53 local businesses, organisations and tertiary providers fronting with stands. Up to 120 people will be on site to talk to students about their career options.

Mrs Hay said some of those involved included Whitestone Contracting, The Veterinary Centre Oamaru, Oamaru Hospital, Network Waitaki and businesses from the agricultural sector. Fast-food chain McDonalds Oamaru had also come on board for the first time.

"It is so positive. We’ve got such high community support," Mrs Hay said.

"I will say [the number of stands] will be 60 by the time it actually happens, the way my phone and emails have been going. If we’re not there we will be very close to it."

The Rural Health Network would also have a medical student attending.

"The tertiary providers are great. We’ve actually got one coming from Auckland. The Defence Force and things like that. It’s all a one stop shop for the kids."

Mrs Hay said the Waitaki District Council community development team and Workbridge, along with the Rapid Relief Team, were all there in support and would be providing lunch to standholders for the first time this year.
