Prominent outdoor clothing and equipment retailer Outside Sports reopens in Arrowtown mid-next week, 22 years after vacating the township.
The business, which originally opened in Queenstown 29 years ago and also operates at Queenstown Airport and in Wanaka, TeAnau and Tekapo, is moving into the Buckingham St premisesformerly occupied by women’s fashion store Wallace & Gibbs.
Co-owner Judy Knight says they formerly operated diagonally across the street for two or three years, but left when their new landlord doubled their rent.
"The time is right to return.
"Arrowtown is no longer the sleepy hollow it was then, and we believe it will be a fantastic addition to serve the locals, some of whom are a bit reluctant to come into [the Queenstown CBD] any more."
Knight says they’ll stock "just the best selection of the brands we run in town, but not as many".
