Despite the current worldwide economic crisis, NHNZ manager Michael Stedman cannot recall a busier time for the Dunedin-based television production company, and he hopes it stays that way.
For the first time in the company's history, all 10 Dunedin editing suites were full, and additional editing work had been outsourced to Auckland and Queenstown.
"We are just overflowing. I can't recall a period at this time of year when we have been this busy," he said.
"It is a very good problem to have."
Six extra staff have been brought to Dunedin to help complete some of the documentaries, but despite the company's busiest schedule in years it would not expand locally.
"I think if we expand we would look offshore."
In addition to offices in Washington DC and Beijing, NHNZ partly owns a production company in Singapore.
With a low dollar and a full work calendar until 2010, the company was in the best shape in years.
But the worldwide economic crisis meant it could not afford to be complacent.
"The company over the last two or three years has continued to grow quite steadily and effectively. We want it to stay that way."
Last month, NHNZ signed a $10 million co-production agreement with Japanese broadcaster NHK, and a memorandum of understanding with Korean-based research and development unit ETRI, to test cutting edge graphics.
