More than 500 submissions have been sent to the Dunedin City Council about its dog control policy and bylaw review.
Submissions closed last week and a city council spokesman said 576 were received.
A hearing and deliberations are scheduled for September 25-26.
Changes being considered include allowing dogs on a leash in the Octagon and between the Exchange and Knox Church in Princes and George Sts and in part of King Edward St, South Dunedin.
Dogs could be allowed off leash in areas that include the Frasers Gully Recreation Reserve track, Pūrākaunui Beach and part of Te Rauone Beach.
