A Dunedin mother is to lay an official complaint after her 2-year-old son was able to leave his preschool undetected.
Vicky Preston said she would complain to the Ministry of Education or the Education Review Office after her son, Regan, left Punavai o le Atamai Pre-School unnoticed by staff on Monday morning.
Regan (2) crossed Macandrew Rd, walked down the street and crossed the road to a Veggie Boys store, about 100m away, before he was found by Sarina de Boer.
Mrs Preston said the preschool did not contact her yesterday and she was still upset about the incident.
''I'm definitely making more complaints about it. I'm not happy,'' Mrs Preston said.
Punavai o le Atamai Pre-School chairman Posala Tioa said the preschool had ''taken steps to ensure this doesn't happen again''.
A tradesman had looked at the facility's gate, but found no fault with it, he said.
In a statement, Mr Tioa said staff had spoken to the families of the children who attended the preschool and thanked them for their support.
When asked if staff knew how Regan left without being seen, Mr Tioa said ''no'' and declined to answer further questions.
Mrs de Boer told the Otago Daily Times yesterday Regan was about ''to run back across Macandrew Rd'' when she found him.
''There was no-one looking for him. There was no-one to be seen,'' she said.
