Almost 100 disc golfers will tee off at Queenstown’s Tucker Beach this weekend for the 11th annual Tucker Beach Rush disc golf tourney.
Organised by Queenstown Disc Golf, it’s the second big tournament of the year in the resort.
Tournament director Hemi Te Awhitu, who’s entered in the mixed pro 40-plus division, says this year’s event has attracted people from all over the South Island and even a couple of entrants from the United States, who just happen to be in the right place at the right time.
Two rounds, or 54 holes, will be played by entrants in each division over the weekend.
Te Awhitu, who won the same division in March’s THL NZ Queenstown Classic, and came runner-up in last year’s Tucker Beach Rush, says he’s looking forward to getting back on the course, which he describes as one of the most advanced in the region.
The tournament’s a Professional Disc Golf Association Tier C New Zealand Disc Golf Tour event.
Along with cash payouts in pro divisions, there’ll be trophies awarded in all divisions and a bunch of prizes thanks to local sponsors, including Smiths Craft Beer House — owner Chris Dickson’s also competing.
Play starts at 8.30am both days.
