The Lawrence Creative Arts group let imaginations run wild at its school holiday puppet workshop at St Patrick’s Church last week.

Lawrence and Waitahuna children had the opportunity to come along and experience creating a puppet from papier mache, fabrics, paints and more last week.

The group used upcycled materials and items to create the puppets.

Nine-year-old Jimmy Purvis, of Lawrence, said he was really excited and enjoyed different parts of the days.

"I really like designing the puppet and loved making it

"It’ll be cool to do a puppet show with them."

Jayden Lee, 9, agreed.

"Us two made alien and baby Yoda puppets

"It was cool making the heads for them."

Organising member Rachel Taylor said the workshop was a "fantastic" process that the children took part in.

"They were really keen on getting into it and we had to show them this was a longer process than they thought.

"But overall they loved it."

The Lawrence Creative Arts group was looking for a space to host its events and hoped to be in a place it could call its own soon.

But first it hosts the Clutha Youth Art Competition at 3 Ross Pl in Lawrence tomorrow.

People are able to get along and look at art displayed by 16 youngsters from around the district.
