Hodgson pops out to see the Greens

When the ODT called at Dunedin North Labour headquarters soon after 9pm sitting MP Peter Hodgson was not there - he was visiting the Greens.

Hodgson looks comfortably home in the seat with a 5945 majority with 87% of the votes counted.

Labour campaign manager Barb Long was impressed with voter turnout in Dunedin North which she said was 3% higher than last year.

About 50 Green Party supporters gathered at St Lees restaurant felt 'empowered' by early party vote figures nationally.

List MP Metiria Turei said early poll results were better than at the last election.

The Greens have picked up 4021 party votes in Dunedin North and Turei 2793, to be in third place.
