Two Dunedin teams through to next round

Dunedin City Royals and Otago University have advanced to the third round of the Kate Sheppard Cup.

Both Dunedin teams had good wins against their southern counterparts during round two in Dunedin last night.

After being level 0-0 at halftime, the Royals produced a big second half to overcome Roslyn Wakari 2-0 at Logan Park Turf.

University were too strong for Queens Park at Logan Park as well. They led 3-0 at halftime and maintained that margin to advance to the third round.

There are some enticing southern match-ups in round two of the Chatham Cup today as well.

Dunedin City Royals take a break from the Southern League and will face Wānaka at the Logan Park turf.

Wānaka will be hoping for a repeat of last year where they knocked the Royals out of the Cup with a 1-0 win in round two.

Green Island, who had a good 1-0 win against Invercargill’s Queens Park in round one, will host University out in Sunnyvale and Roslyn makes the trip to Timaru to play Northern Hearts at Aorangi Park.

Northern and Mosgiel, who are first and third in the local leagues, will play under lights at the Caledonian.

The local leagues and Southern League will resume next week.
