Govt gives extra $3m to Plunket

The Government has announced an extra $3 million a year for Plunket so it can handle more child health checks.

Associate Health Minister Steve Chadwick said there had been an unexpected rise in the number of births and the extra money would ensure Plunket could keep up.

The $3 million is the same amount National has promised it will give Plunket so it can reinstate the dumped Plunketline.

The Health Ministry ended public funding for the wellchild phone service in favour of an integrated health helpline service operated by another provider.
