World title for Mazet-Brown

Raglan teenager Txema Mazet-Brown was crowned snowboard big air junior world champion in Italy yesterday.

He was the top qualifier with a huge score of 95 after a run that included a cab double corked 1440, and when the finals were cancelled due to poor weather conditions, he was declared the winner.

"The junior world championship title feels great," Mazet-Brown said.

"I’ve been working very hard for a long time now, and for it to finally pay off in this result today ... it’s just amazing."

Fellow Kiwi snowboarder Rocco Jamieson, of Wanaka, finished seventh, after earlier claiming bronze in slopestyle.
