More young singers are taking to the stage in Dunedin to perform stage tunes.

Convener Peter Thomson said 65 competitors, aged from 7 to 20, some from as far as Alexandra, competed at the 67th Annual Junior Vocal Competition at the Mosgiel Coronation Hall over three days from Friday.

Mr Thomson said the singers included 22 first-time competitors.

The event, run by the Green Island Competitions Society, attracted audiences of up to 80 people.

They saw some stellar performances, he said.

''The standard is fabulous,'' Mr Thomson said.
