Former owner-operators Liz Fox and Henry Mellon closed the hotel in late January without notice. Attempts to contact them have been unsuccessful.
Founded 130 years ago, the Fitzroy is on 864sq m of commercially zoned land comprising three titles. It has a floor area of 530sq m, including a bar, dining areas, a manager's flat and accommodation rooms.
The property has a rateable value of $580,000. NAI Harcourts is handling the mortgagee sale by tender, which closes on May 28.
Mr Mellon and Ms Fox are sole directors and 50:50 shareholders in Glenorchy Lodge Ltd, which they placed in voluntary liquidation in August last year.
The Fitzroy had operated 15 poker machines, aligned with the Southern Trust, the trust having in recent weeks been to Dunedin police about the pokies' operation.
The Hospitality Association of New Zealand was contacted and supplied contact details for the couple, but both numbers were disconnected, as were other numbers.
In recent years, liquor licensing applications for the hotel, renamed the Fitzroy Pub On The Park, were made under Fox-Mellon Partnership.
Brewing giant Lion confirmed when contacted that Fox-Mellon Partnership at the Fitzroy was a client, but a spokeswoman declined further comment, citing client confidentiality.
