A farm worker was killed while riding a four-wheel-motorcycle on the lower Waitaki plains on Saturday - the second farm motorcycle fatality in North Otago in less than a month.
The 39-year-old woman was riding the motorcycle along a track on a Ferry Rd property when the left-hand front wheel dropped into a culvert.
The motorcycle rolled and landed on top of her and she died at the scene, Sergeant Wayne Brew said.
The woman's name has not been released as next-of-kin were yet to be notified overseas.
Police were investigating her death on behalf of the coroner.
On October 6, Matthew Richardson (10) was killed on a Georgetown dairy farm when his two-wheel 80cc machine collided with a four-wheel-drive vehicle being driven by a farm worker.
According to the New Zealand Transport Agency, apart from road crashes, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are the single most common cause of work-related fatalities in New Zealand.
Yesterday, Sergeant Tony Woodbridge, of Oamaru, urged people to take care when riding ATVs on farms.
