In celebration of Chinese New Year, the Oamaru Public Library has held a dragon-making contest.
Oamaru Public Library events co-ordinator Debbie Jarvis said the competition was a way to celebrate the Year of the Dragon.
It was open to creations of all mediums and people of all ages.
The 42 entries included drawings, paintings, embroidery, clay, crochet and Lego creations by 3 to 69-year-olds.
"It’s been fantastic," Mrs Jarvis said.
"I’m just really impressed with the creativity of the Oamaru community."
The horde of dragons did create concerns regarding a fire risk.
So, Mrs Jarvis has enforced a strict no feeding or touching policy.
She said the idea came from her personal love of dragons, the popularity of children’s books about dragons and the collaboration the library had with the Chinese community during the Oamaru Victorian Heritage Celebrations.
The competition was "something different" and an activity to keep people busy during the holidays.
Forrester Gallery educator Liz King judged the competition.
The public also voted on a people’s choice award.
Chinese New Year is celebrated on February 10.
