Mana Tahuna Charitable Trust tumu whakarae (chief executive) Mike Rewi (Kai Tahu, Kati Mamoe, Ngati Kahungunu) is pictured with Honor Rose Tuhura (left) and Charlie Jay, both 7, of Queenstown, at Te Kararo Queenstown Gardens yesterday afternoon, during Te Ra o Waitangi (Waitangi Day) celebrations.

It is the second year the trust, in conjunction with Queenstown Lakes District Council, has organised the free event in Queenstown, which attracted about 2000 people by mid-afternoon.

Musical entertainment yesterday included The Kollective, led by Ned Wephia (Ngapuhi), Mana Tahuna’s kaiarahi tikanga Maori (cultural adviser), duo Ho & Ha, of Invercargill, Queenstown’s Peti Seiuli and a kapa haka group, with kai provided by Te Puna Ako o Tahuna (Tahuna Early Learning Centre) and Queenstown Basketball Club.

Mr Rewi said he was thrilled with yesterday’s turnout, and that forecast rain stayed away.
