Taking their horses for a walk are Nikaela De-Lange (left), on her horse Sox, and her mother, Belinda Chettleburgh, leading Elite, along North Rd, Dunedin.

Ms De-Lange’s horses used to compete competitively in dressage with her before the horses both got arthritis.

Mrs Chettleburgh said the pair, members of Dressage Otago, went out with the horses for about two hours every Saturday.

"It’s a regular thing that I help my daughter Nikaela with.

"Every Saturday she rides one down the valley and then swaps and rides the other one home and I’ll lead the other one back home again for her."

Due to Sox and Elite both getting arthritis, Ms De-Lange went from competing to judging dressage.

She took the horses on regular walks to help them stay in shape.
