Stewart Henry dedicates every Monday to volunteer for the Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust through the community volunteer programme Task Force Green.
He started volunteering with the organisation in 1999 doing various odd jobs such as gravel work, planting and removing graffiti.
He is one of their longest-serving volunteers.
After being introduced to trapping work for the Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust in 2003, he felt a passion grow for the cause.
"I’m very passionate about trapping and going after stoats and ferrets.
"I’m quite happy with what I do," Mr Henry said.
He was encouraged to get into trapping by Otago Peninsula Community Board chairman Paul Pope.
Mr Pope taught him how to set traps, giving him the confidence he needed to later teach others.
Mr Henry, a publishing dockhand for Otago Daily Times, looked forward to continuing his volunteer work and hoped more young people would join the programme so he could pass on his knowledge.
"I’ve seen a lot of wonderful things."
Programme co-ordinator Rick Wilson said the volunteers worked alongside the DCC and also participated in community work.
Task Force Green is supported and run by the Dunedin City Council and has about 40 volunteers who do a total average of 24,000 hours of work a year.
