If you have not prepared your three French hens, two turtle doves, a partridge and a pear tree yet, the Christmas Eve market might be the place to go.

The market, organised by the Oamaru Farmers’ Market committee, will be held on Christmas Eve.

In previous years, the Christmas Eve market has been held at twilight, but this year it will be held in the morning.

Oamaru Farmers’ Market manager Jacob Barwick said it would be held at the same time and place as the Sunday market, since Christmas Eve was on a Sunday this year.

It would essentially be the same as the weekly market, with a few festive additions, he said.

There would be a wishing tree, lucky dips and lollies for the children, along with buskers singing carols.

The market would be a good place for last-minute gifts and stocking stuffers, Mr Barwick said.

It would also be an opportunity to buy any vegetables or other food needed for Christmas meals.

"It’s just nice to see people out and about supporting local suppliers."

Chopped Butchery owner Eddie Rivett said he was preparing especially for the market.

He was stocking up on pork and lamb roasts and hoped to still have some hams for sale at the Christmas market.

Ham and lamb roasts had been the most popular meats leading up to Christmas.

He had also prepared a few cuts specifically for the festive season, including a boneless rolled pork loin.
