Airport numbers increase

Queenstown Airport had an especially busy month in February, when the traditional peak summer month was boosted by passengers attending the New Zealand Open and flying to Auckland events, including Bruce Springsteen's concerts.

The number of domestic and international passengers going through the airport increased 9.6%, or 9506 passengers, compared with February 2013, the airport corporation announced last week.

Domestic numbers were up 3.8% after some decline in the first six months of the financial year.

International passenger numbers continued to grow, up 39.9%.

Total passenger numbers for the year were up 5.1% (59,378 passengers) compared with the previous 12 months.
