Some of the more than 60 dogs entered in the popular Jack Russell (and variations of the breed) race at the 77th Wanaka A&P Show on Saturday scamper after Pat McCarthy as he sets a trail with a dead hare.
The race was won by Daniel Bogue, of Wanaka, with his Jack Russell-Chihuahua cross Stella.
Although it was too early to confirm if there was a record attendance at the show, co-ordinator Jane Stalker said yesterday a good indication was that she offered a two-day ticket this year and had to print more to cope with the demand.
She estimated 32,000 spectators, competitors and trade exhibitors attended over the two days, with a confirmed record of 15,000 on the Friday.
The number of equestrian competitors was 270 - 40 more than last year.
Among the celebrity guests were Prime Minister John Key, Olympic canoe sprint gold medallist Lisa Carrington, Olympic BMX silver medallist Sarah Walker, London Paralympics multi-medallist Sophie Pascoe and Highlanders Brad Thorn, Ben Smith, Nasi Manu, Joe Wheeler and Shane Christie.
