Two sheep on the lam caused a brief moment of excitement in Wanaka yesterday morning.
The sheep escaped while on the way to the Upper Clutha A&P Show.
One was eventually rounded up on the golf course, after the intervention of the police, but the other headed for town.
Lake Wanaka i-Site staff member and qualified veterinary nurse Jamie McGrath told the Otago Daily Times the i-Site was having a quiet moment when someone noticed the sheep on Ardmore St.
''All of a sudden the sheep just came in through the door.''
Ms McGrath said the sheep was quickly ''rounded up'' and because it was bleeding from a cut leg, she used her nursing skills to attend to it.
Queenstown Lakes District animal control officer Matt Hargreaves collected the animal and returned it to the A&P showgrounds.
No-one dealing with the sheep could tell the ODT what sort of sheep it was.
Mr Hargreaves said it was ''a sheep sheep'' and an i-Site staff member described it as a ''giant sheep''.
