The north-bound lane on State Highway 1 was blocked for about two hours yesterday after a courier van hit a concrete power pole about 4.20pm, bringing down live lines.
The wires did not touch the van, and the sole occupant, a woman driver, was treated by Oamaru ambulance officers before being transferred to the Otago Rescue Helicopter and flown to Dunedin Hospital.
The van was travelling north when it veered to the side of the road and struck the concrete power pole about 1km south of the Moeraki township turn-off.
Netcon linesmen arrived quickly to isolate the electricity lines. The Hampden and Palmerston fire brigades each sent a unit and Oamaru police attended.
Constable Ewen Graham of Oamaru police was still investigating the crash late yesterday and no further information was available.
