After 10 years travelling the world with high energy urban circus show 360 AllStars, founder and director Gene Peterson and champion break dancer Bboy Leerok are still loving every minute.

Featuring BMX, basketball, break dancing, acrobatics, drumming, live music and more, 360 All Stars will perform three family-friendly shows at the Regent Theatre this weekend — Saturday, October 7, at 2pm and 6pm; and Sunday, October 8, at 11am. It is suitable for children aged 8 and over.

At the beginning, Peterson had a dream to create a show that would bring "as many types of awesome as possible" together on one stage.

"So I started looking for the best in the world in a whole range of different street performance fields, including Bboy Leerok," he said.

Christchurch-based Bboy Leerok is a two-time world champion break dancer, who joins 360 AllStars for regular tours, along with managing a trampoline park and teaching youngsters break dancing, parkour and acrobatics.

He started break dancing in 2000, and is still going strong 23 years later.

"I need to keep practising my art form when on tour, and off tour I train in the lab and work on updating my performances."

He is excited to be involved in 360 AllStars first full tour of New Zealand, including in his home town.

"It’s going to be great to have my family in the audience in Christchurch — my Mum will finally get to see me perform," Leerok said.

With break dancing named as an Olympic Sport for the 2024 games in Paris, Leerok plans to fight hard to make the 16-strong competition for the Olympic Bboy battle.

"I would love to represent New Zealand at the Olympics, and will do all I can to make it happen," he said.

Peterson said, while the Covid-19 pandemic had caused disruptions to tours, 360 AllStars was now full steam ahead, and had been in Australia, Canada, Italy, Scotland, and the Czech Republic this year. A six-month North American tour is in the works for next year.

On their first trip to Dunedin, the 360 AllStars were preparing to give their all.

"We will have the best of the best on stage, so we can guarantee a spectacular show," he said.

 - The winner of the The Star’s 360 AllStars ticket giveaway competition was Cathryn Price, of Dunedin. She receives a family pass to the performance of her choice this weekend at the Regent Theatre.
