Six police cars rushed to a fire in Invercargill this afternoon after firefighters retreated from the scene.
Witnesses said they saw firefighters rush into a house in Tweed St with extinguishers.
They then quickly left and six police cars arrived.
Officers could be seen peeking through and tapping on windows at the house.
They were also speaking to two women at the back of the property.
One of the women then accompanied six officers, one of whom was carrying a riot shield, into the property.
They escorted a man, who appeared to be in handcuffs, out of the building.
The man was taken away in a police car.
