Pool warming for opening on Sunday

The water at St Clair Hot Salt Water Pool is warming up before what it is hoped will be another busy season at Dunedin’s only outdoor swimming pool which opens on Sunday.

Aquatics team lead Michael Kruger said the pool, which was kept at 28°C through the season ,was "very close to being at temperature".

"This morning it was 25 and a-half to 26°C, so we're not too far off."

"We always hope for a good season. It is often weather-dependent," Mr Kruger said.

The forecast for Sunday was not looking too promising, but a few brave swimmers were expected to take the plunge, he said.

This season’s lifeguards were at the pool yesterday getting ready for the opening.

Mr Kruger said a majority of the lifeguards had returned from last season.

"We're covering our expectations and things like water treatments, making sure they know how to do chlorine readings, pH readings and making sure the pool can run at optimal levels."

The pool closes on April 2.
