A property at Arrowtown’s Millbrook Resort has won a national award for best garden maintenance.
Diva Landscapes’ work on Millbrook Sanctuary netted it the premier award, announced during the Landscapes of Distinction Awards in Dunedin on Saturday night , held by Registered Master Landscapers New Zealand.
The company also won a gold in garden maintenance for its work on Drift Bay Lakefront, also in Queenstown.
"The combination of formality and informality creates fluid movement throughout the garden.
"The strong, well-clipped visual elements are balanced by more playful plantings and well-managed stepping-stone paths.
"The maintenance team is commended for their skilful handling of every aspect of plant management.
Registered Master Landscapers chief executive Janine Scott congratulated Diva Landscapes on the major win in a category "integral to a thriving and successful landscape".
"The job is certainly not done for a landscaper once the final plant has been placed.
"Instead, the job should also be about guardianship and growth to ensure a blooming and well-managed space for years to come."
Almost 100 entries were submitted from across the country this year for the awards, which celebrate the quality trade, craftsmanship and expertise of the best landscapers in the country.
Award-winning projects represented the top echelon of landscaping design and construction in the country.
Other Otago winners were Dunedin’s Design and Garden Landscapes Ltd, which won two golds, two silvers and a bronze, recognising its work on St Clair’s Cliffs Road Garden and Belleknowes’ Granville Terrace Residence.
Lakes Wanaka Ltd won two silver awards for The Heights Ave in Wanaka.
Weka Landscaping Ltd won a gold for the construction of Stout Terrace Property in Cromwell.
The young landscaper of the year competition, held in Dunedin last week, was won by Goom Landscapes operations manager Caleb Washington, of Christchurch.
