Further testing for asbestos at the Toitū Otago Settlers Museum in Dunedin is to be carried out after a problem was picked up in storage areas last year.
Public areas are not affected.
"The museum remains safe for the public and our staff," a Dunedin City Council spokesman said.

Staff were alerted last year to issues involving collection items and asbestos dust in several storage areas.
"Subsequent air and floor tests at the museum have come back clear and access to the collection stores is being appropriately managed," the spokesman said.
"Further testing and remediation work will be needed, but we don’t yet have a costing or timeframe for this work."
Some work is being carried out at the southern end of the facility at the moment and more is to come to redevelop an old mechanical plant room.
The council wants to make it a usable space with audiovisual potential and reconfigure access so people can get to it from the main foyer.
Tenders for redeveloping the plant room close on September 7.
