It could be back to the future for the Waitaki District Council, if it approves a new committee structure on Tuesday.
The council is planning to reintroduce several committees, a change from the last three years when it has had one ''committee of the whole'' made up of all councillors.
Before the last term, the council had several separate committees to make decisions or recommendations to the council.
Councillors on Tuesday will consider a report from Mayor Gary Kircher on how the council should operate for the next three years.
It involves creating three new council committees, replacing the committee of the whole.
They would be assets, community services and customer services committees, which would join three other committees.
The new assets committee would be responsible for decisions on assets, but also information and technology, the Moeraki liaison group, the council's property portfolio, harbour and solid waste and recycling.
Community services would oversee the youth council, grants and awards, cultural facilities and their redevelopment, the North Otago Museum advisory committee, Alps2Ocean cycleway and sport and recreation.
Customer services would take responsibility for hearings committees, liquor licensing committee and communications.
Mr Kircher said since the election he had had discussions with councillors about the committee structure, resulting in the proposal for three ''core committees'' to replace the committee of the whole.
The council and core committees would meet over a day, on a six-weekly rotation.
The Ahuriri and Waihemo Community Boards remain unchanged.
