O’Sullivan supreme in Edmond Cup open men’s 8km

New course, no problem.

A strong field of 73 runners produced some impressive Edmond Cup results at the Otakou Golf Course on Saturday.

Hill City-University’s Oliver O’Sullivan was too strong in the open men’s 8km, securing the title with his time of 28min 21sec. He led Hill City to a win in the open men’s 8km team race.

Caversham’s Kristy Eyles (34min 37sec) held off team-mate Laura Bungard (35min 14sec) to win the women’s 8km race. They both led their club to a win in the women’s 8km team race too.

McKay Watson (Leith) won the open men’s 6km race, finishing in 25min 45sec, and Aly Craigie won the women’s event in 26min 25sec.

Leith took bragging rights in both the men’s and women’s 6km team races.

Josh Siloy (Taieri) had a confident race to win the open men’s 4km with his time of 15min 36sec, as did Melanie Button (Ariki) to win the open women’s 4km in 17min 48sec.

Thomas Weatherall (UNA) won the boys’ under-16 4km race in 17 min 01sec. Lola Saunders (Ariki) won the girls’ event in 17min 20sec.

Henry Eyles (Caversham) produced a strong run to win the boys’ under-14 3km in 15min 09sec, as did Eva McLean (Hill City) to win the girls’ event in 15min 31sec.

Taylor Martin (Ariki) won the boys’ under-12 2km title, finishing in 8min 32sec. Arnelle Hamman (Taieri) won the girls’ event in 10min 14sec.

Alex Brown (Caversham) cruised through the open 6km walk, finishing in 33min 31sec.
