More floats in Santa parade

The 2013 Oamaru Christmas Parade looks set to be bigger than last year's, with more floats entered, and a new look for Santa's sleigh.

Parade organiser Anton Roswell said 78 floats had been registered for the parade, which this year would include a free music concert at Oamaru Harbour.

''It feels bigger than last year's, which is great.

''We have about 12 or 14 more entries this year.''

The parade will start at 10am tomorrow outside the McDonald's restaurant, in Thames St, and finish at the Oamaru i-site.

Santa would also appear on a new float this year, Mr Roswell said.

''We are redesigning his float so it's quite different, and then he will park his float down at the bay and he will be there for photographs.''

Floats would then park at the Oamaru Farmers Market to be judged.

Mr Roswell said judging would take place in three categories, including best business float, best school float and best community float.

The parade would be preceded by a fly-past by a World War 2 aircraft.
