Construction of concrete footings and foundations for a $5 million, 17-apartment complex in Filleul St is expected to begin this month.
The apartment block, at 93 Filleul, is the first of two projects worth a total $13 million to be undertaken in the street by developer Neil Lyons, with an $8 million 25-unit apartment complex at 97 Filleul scheduled for design next year, to be constructed in 2015.
Mr Lyons said work at the site had been slowed, with steel piling now required on the site and to also allow time for the Historic Places Trust to search for and record any artefacts found during excavations.
The 600sq m site had the Tudor Clothing Company building on it, with that business having relocated. The four-storey building will contain 17 one-bedroom units, with underground parking.
When asked if there had been ''off the plan'' sales, Mr Lyons said some of the units had been leased, and he expected the complex to be finished by the end of May.
He developed the Station Mews studio apartments in Anzac Ave, as well as studio apartments in Forth and London Sts.
